My Experiene using Uber Black in Amsterdam, Netherlands

Due to some last minute hotel booking changes and a slight oversight on my part I ended up having to get my own ride to the airport from my hotel to catch my 7AM departure.

Short back story:

I booked a trip from Atlanta to India in business class with a 3 day stopover is Amsterdam using Delta Skymiles. Due to points availability I originally had 1 night in the city and 2 nights near the airport. Availability changed which allowed me to rebook (for free) 2 nights at Radisson Blu Amsterdam in the city center for 50k Carlson points and 1 night at Hampton by Hilton at the airport for 30k HHonors points. Both were great hotels and a great value for using points!

This saved me a train commute each way for one day and also got me 25k HHonors points back for the cheaper Hampton hotel. A double win!

When we arrived at the Hampton I found out that the free airport shuttle did not start running early enough to make our flight. We would need a taxi. Ugh.

Enter Uber! I asked the reception about the taxi fare to the airport and they said 20-24 euros. I fired up the Uber app on my iPhone and got the same estimate for Uber Black! They did say taxis accept credit cards but I was worried my US credit card might have issues despite having a chip (and no PIN).

At 5AM I fired up the Uber app again on my phone and requested Uber Black. It confirmed my driver quickly and I sent him a text message telling him which hotel we were staying at. He arrived in less than 10 minutes!

He was very professional and actually said he was an Uber Lux driver as his car was a very nice new Mercedes S class. We got the usual bottled water and professional treatment. He even loaded and unloaded our bags for us. He got a 5 star rating from me!

The ride ended up costing 22 euros and was charged without problem to my credit card. That converted to right at $30 USD on my statement.

This was my first time trying Uber abroad and it was great. I will definitely use it abroad again if the need arises. Not having to deal with cash or extra credit card fees or declined transactions makes it worth it. Especially when the price is roughly the same and you get better service!

If you have not signed up for and used Uber yet you and I will both get a free ride up to $20 USD if you join using my link:
